  Top 10 News Items for 2011 – Official and Unofficial Versions

  Each year at around this time, we at Arc Communications create official and unofficial versions of a list of the Top Ten News Items for the year.

  The No.1 news item in my official version is the creation of our corporate website in 44 languages, the largest number of languages available for a single website in Japan. As the saying goes, “A picture is worth a thousand words,” it was through the development of this global website that we have been able to achieve what we have not been able to fully explain through words. Showing the different versions according to language has made it easier for us to show not only the differences that need to be taken into account in translations but also other elements that need to be considered, such as how designs look different by language and the effort that needs to be made in terms of coding.

  Meanwhile, top on the list of news items in my unofficial version is that we established an Arc Communications Ski Team and have been honored to welcome Yuichi Onda, who has competed on the Japan National Team in two Winter Olympics (Turin and Vancouver), as a member of this team. We are continuing to search for other ways to forge win-win relationships between what is a minor sport in Japan and a venture firm.

  Incidentally, a newspaper reporter that I know very well recently complained to me, “The name of your company is too long. Hokkaido Railway Company and even Kitano Construction Corporation can be written in one line in Japanese, but your company name takes up three lines. Did you hear me, it takes up three lines in a headline?!”

  Oh dear. Does this mean we need to change our company name? (wink)
