The latest news on Arc Communications
Morihiro Horie has been selected to represent Japan in the World Ski Orienteering Championships 2011!
The World Ski Orienteering Championships, which are held once every two years, will be taking place in Sweden beginning on March 20th, 2011. Arc Communications’ very own Morihiro Horie took first place in the Hokkaido Championships (February 11th and 12th in Rusutsu Village, Hokkaido), which doubled as a qualifying trial, and he will be going to the world championships representing Japan. An article on Morihiro also appeared in the March 1, 2011 edition of the Yamagata Shimbun newspaper, and he was introduced as an ace in domestic ski orienteering.
Ski orienteering is a racing sport that is very popular in Northern Europe. Its popularity is starting to spread around the world, and ski orienteering became an official event at the 2011 Asian Winter Games held in Kazakhstan. Ski orienteering is also seen as a high contender for being chosen as an official event for the 2017 Asian Winter Games in Sapporo as well as the 2022 Winter Olympics. There is active international lobbying now taking place.
However, it is still a minor sport in Japan, and a portion of the fees for being dispatched to represent Japan (roughly 300,000 yen per person) must be borne by the athlete, with Morihiro being no exception. Funding the trip is proving difficult for the younger athletes, such as high school students, who have been chosen to participate in the tournament. We are therefore seeking persons who will help co-sponsor the Japan representatives, with donations being accepted in increments of 500 yen. Please look here for details (http://ski.boy.jp/2011/) (in Japanese only). A personally written and signed card will be sent to you during the tournament from the athletes.
